My name is really Amethyst, it’s not some pseudonym to be like, a super cool kid or anything. Anyway, I cook. I’ve been cooking my whole life as a means of not only necessity, but also a form of self therapy, and as a hobby. I’ve been in the food industry since college (over ten years! Thank you, USC), but my passion started and blossomed with my Grandma and our family in her kitchen, with the recipes passed down from her mother, and from the women, friends and associates from various backgrounds throughout different stages in my life.
I should mention I was born and raised in North Charleston, SC. So my cooking is heavily influenced by my Gullah Geechee heritage and culture. I should also note that our food, is not your typical Southern food. Our food is the food of the West African slaves brought to build this country. It is the food of the Native people who were here before us all. And it is the food of all of the colonizers and founders and all the immigrants who have left and continue to leave their marks here. It is soul food in its own right, but more importantly, our food is American food at its deep, painful, and beautiful core. I can only hope that while on my journey of life, these things are all recognized and respected.
I hope to honor the legacies of the various ethnic backgrounds who make up who I am. While I can cook just about anything, I focus primarily on southern cuisine and I'm actively focused on learning more on the foods of the Gullah Geechee, Native tribes of the south, and aspects of Latin cuisine as well. The foods of the diasporas.

I'm also now featuring Personal and Private chef work, including catering small events, classes, meal prepping, grocery shopping, and in home services. I am a Certified Food Safety Manager through the National Registry of Food Safety Professionals, and with my years of experience, I can assure you, I can provide exceptionally clean and safe service and products. I am willing to accommodate most allergies, dietary and religious restrictions, and generally picky tastes!
